Bank Leumi chills account of Israeli slapped by US sanctions.

TLDR:

– Bank Leumi has frozen the accounts of Yinon Levi, one of the four Israelis recently sanctioned by the US for violence against Palestinians and pro-Palestinian activists in the West Bank.

– The US State Department accused Levi of leading a group of settlers who engaged in actions creating an atmosphere of fear in the West Bank, including assaulting Palestinian and Bedouin civilians, burning their fields, and destroying their property.

Bank Leumi has frozen the accounts of Yinon Levi, one of the four Israelis recently sanctioned by the US for violence against Palestinians and pro-Palestinian activists in the West Bank. Levi has a personal account and a business account with the bank. The decision to freeze Levi’s accounts came after the US State Department accused Levi of leading a group of settlers who engaged in actions creating an atmosphere of fear in the West Bank. These actions allegedly included assaulting Palestinian and Bedouin civilians, threatening them with violence, burning their fields, and destroying their property.

Levi has denied his involvement in violence against Palestinians and has stated that the sanctions were caused by an “anarchist, anti-Zionist left” who are against the Jewish people. He criticized US President Joe Biden for publishing stories about the pioneers of the people of Israel and claimed that the US cannot deal with other issues, such as the Houthis. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich expressed his sadness at what he called an “antisemitic campaign against settlers” and pledged to ensure that Israeli banks do not harm citizens due to an “absurd decree.” Religious Zionist Party MK Zvi Sukkot met with Levi to express his support and called the decision to freeze Levi’s accounts “ridiculous.”
